Sharp, lemon-bright and green, this May Chang essential oil brings a clean citrus lift to a diffuser blend or home fragrance ritual. Steam distilled from the fruit of Litsea cubeba, it has a sparkling character that feels crisp, fresh and quietly energising in the room.
The scent in the room
A bright citrus opening, closer to lemon peel than sweetness, with a clean green edge.
A naturally lively essential oil for diffuser moments, especially when you want the air to feel fresh and clear.
Lovely in simple blends where a citrus note is needed without using a cold-pressed peel oil.
Pairs especially well with tea tree when you want a sharper, cleaner aromatic profile for home scenting.
Suited to morning routines, desk-side rituals, and spaces that benefit from a crisp aromatic reset.
From Litsea cubeba fruit
This oil comes from the fruit of Litsea cubeba, sourced from China and extracted by steam distillation. That method uses steam to carry the aromatic compounds from the plant material, giving May Chang its clear, bright citrus character without relying on pressed peel.
How to use it with care
Add a few drops to a diffuser according to your diffuser’s own instructions, or blend it into an appropriate carrier oil before using on skin. Essential oils are concentrated, so do not apply neat.
Patch test before skin use. Avoid use during pregnancy, with young children, or around pets unless guided by a qualified professional. Keep the bottle closed, stored upright, and away from heat and direct light.
May Chang in aromatic practice
May Chang is often chosen in aromatherapy and natural perfumery for its clear citrus brightness. Unlike many familiar citrus oils, it is steam distilled from fruit rather than cold pressed from peel, which gives it a fresh, clean profile that sits beautifully in diffuser blends. In home rituals, it is commonly used when a room wants a lighter, more awake atmosphere, especially alongside sharper oils such as tea tree.
