Tokyo, Japan - Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced the release of the PlayStation Portable (PSP-3000), a new model of the PSPR that offers even higher image quality, allowing users to enjoy a variety of entertainment content, including games, with immersive video and audio. The new model will be released in Japan, Asia, North America, and Europe in October 2008.
The newly released PSPR (PSP-3000) inherits the weight, size, and basic functions of the lighter and thinner PSPR (PSP-2000), but comes standard with an LCD display that delivers outstanding video quality and a built-in microphone that further expands the range of uses for the PSPR, meeting the diverse needs of PSPR users.
Equipped with an LCD display that offers the highest level of contrast, response speed, and wide color gamut among mobile devices, the PSPR's signature 4.3-inch high-definition screen allows users to enjoy more natural and vivid images than ever before. Furthermore, the adoption of anti-reflection technology makes the screen easier to see in bright places, further improving usability outdoors. The built-in microphone, which comes standard with the PSPR, allows users to easily enjoy compatible game software*1 as well as communication tools such as Skype®*2. For creators, the new microphone function and the ability to more accurately capture their images will further expand the freedom of content creation for the PSPR.
In addition, the video output function for displaying the PSPR's high-definition images on a TV has been expanded to support interlaced game output. Even on TVs that do not support progressive video input, the PSPR's game screen can now be output in analog format using a dedicated cable*3, further enhancing the convenience of the PSPR.
