Raden is a technique in which the iridescent, pearlescent part of the inside of shells such as blue oyster, turban shell, and white butterfly shell is thinly polished, cut into various patterns, and inlaid into lacquer or wood. It is a delicate and nerve-wracking process, but it is a beautiful technique that produces sparkling results.
