Taps with full threads are called "finishing taps," while those with slightly less thread are called "medium" taps. Taps with the least threads are called "point" taps. Point taps are tapered toward the tip and narrow to a point. They easily tap holes drilled with a drill, and their fewer teeth allow for less cutting force.
