Soria In the Forest: The Story of Chang, the Sun Bear Rescue (Translated Picture Book Series)

As a child, the protagonist, Trang, witnessed a bear being mistreated and decided to work in wildlife conservation. His daily efforts toward this goal paid off, leading to his being hired as a volunteer at a conservation center. One day, he declares to Soria, a baby Malayan sun bear rescued by the center, "I'll return it to the forest!" and begins to raise it. Living with the bear in the forest, he helps her learn the skills necessary to survive on her own, and sets off in search of the perfect place. This autobiographical graphic novel is based on the early work of Vietnamese conservationist Tran Nguyen. Young Vietnamese artist Giet Duong, whose meticulous depictions of wildlife and beautiful rainforests contrast with the forests destroyed by humans, won the Carnegie Medal for Illustration, the UK's highest award for children's books, in 2023.
