GLOOMHAVEN: BUTTONS & BUGS is a solo-player game with an original campaign story written by Isaac Childress, featuring a playstyle similar to Gloomhaven, albeit at a fraction of the scale. It is set after the events of Gloomhaven and Forgotten Circles. Esther's recluse hails have earned her a reputation for being extremely helpful in saving the city from repeated disasters, and she absolutely hates it. The Wannabe heroes are constantly working on their studies at Crooked Bone, seeking help in making a name for themselves—not to mention the demons who come seeking revenge. She briefly considered moving, but since that would require effort, she instead placed an enchantment on her front door: anyone who tries to open it will be miniaturized, thus making it unproblematic. Your character is such an aspiring hero. In a nasty attempt at fame, they attempt to visit Hale and Pouf. Now the size of a mouse, they have entered an entirely different realm of lawlessness and self-preservation. To convince Hale to return to his previous size, they must find a new way into Crooked Bone. Each scenario is a single card, pitting one mercenary against a handful of opponents with simple actions and AI. Each mercenary's hand contains only four double-sided cards, but they can be used twice, both face up and face down, before being discarded. Attacks are resolved using a die in conjunction with a modifier table, and as you level up throughout the campaign, both the table and your mercenary ability cards improve.
