Silky smooth, delicate sound The Ortofon Concorde is characterized by its form, which resembles that of a supersonic passenger aircraft. Its appearance is unique, with the headshell and cartridge body integrated and tapering towards the stylus. The reason this distinctive cartridge was produced stems from a certain philosophy that cartridge manufacturers were strongly pursuing at the time of its creation in 1979. Most cartridges of that era were developed with low mass and high compliance (easy stylus movement) as their paramount objectives, and both the cartridge and tonearm were required to be even more sensitive than those of today's standards. When this was pursued to the extreme, this integrated shell body emerged as the ideal shape. This body not only made the ideal of the time a reality, but also inherited the concept of "simplicity" that was carried over from the SPU series. It does not require mounting or adjusting the position of the cartridge body's headshell or wiring lead wires; it can be used immediately after attaching it to the shell connector of a universal tonearm and adjusting the zero balance and tracking force. Furthermore, the distance from the stylus tip to the rear end of the headshell is 52 mm, the same as the SPU. It can truly be said to be a pioneer of modern universal design. The original Concorde series, which first embodied this concept, featured a remarkably compact magnetic circuit and high-performance damping mechanism for an MC type of its time. It was a sensation as a high-performance model of its era, and the MC200 and its sibling, the MC100, became the technical foundation for modern Ortofon's high-end MC types. The lineup also included the VMS type Concorde 30, 20, 10, and STD, which were born as low-mass, high-compliance models, as well as the ultimate SME 30H with an integrated arm pipe. Characterized by its excellent compatibility with highly sensitive tonearms and its uncolored, "accurate" sound, the Concorde series, with its strong individuality not found in other cartridges, has been blessed with a loyal following. Even after temporarily disappearing from the Hi-Fi cartridge lineup, there have been constant calls for its return as a regular model. In response to this, we have embarked on the development of a new-era Hi-Fi Concorde that will surpass even those that were phenomenal in the last century.
