Long ago, while traveling, Susanoo-no-Mikoto reached the land of Ise. It was already dark and he was at a loss as to where to stay. The village's wealthy man, Kodan Shorai, coldly rejected Susanoo-no-Mikoto. However, Somin Shorai, who was poor but kind-hearted, warmly welcomed him and treated him as warmly as possible. That night, as Susanoo-no-Mikoto fell asleep, he dreamed that an evil plague was coming from the north, so he wove rings of buds and hung them around Somin's house. The next morning, every house in the village had fallen victim to the plague, but only Somin's house had escaped the disaster. Somin was delighted to have been saved by the bud ring and expressed his gratitude to Susanoo-no-Mikoto for his miraculous power. Furthermore, before departing, Susanoo-no-Mikoto left behind the following words: "No matter what kind of plague spreads in the future, if you write 'Somin Shorai's Descendants Family' and display it at your front door, you will be spared from the disaster." Since then, Somin's house has prospered for generations, and it is said that at some point in the Ise region, a sacred talisman with the name 'Somin Shorai' began to be hung on the New Year's shimenawa as a talisman to ward off evil. *In the Ise region, it is displayed at the entrance all year round in hopes of good health.
