An espresso pack screen is a metal filter placed on top of the tamped grounds during espresso extraction. This pack screen distributes water evenly, providing excellent filtration, facilitating extraction and helping to create a delicious, smooth espresso. The coffee cake (the grounds after espresso extraction) is neatly clumped and less uneven in color. It is 0.7mm thick—unlike paper, it is strong and durable, and can be reused to improve water distribution. Since the temperature can drop by approximately 2°C when passing through the espresso pack screen, we recommend brewing at a higher water temperature (2-4°C). If the resulting strength and richness are low (but not exceeding 3-4°C), you can increase the temperature by an additional 2°C. Please check the portafilter size before purchasing. As with tampers, a small gap exists because a tight fit prevents the plates from removing.
