Knotted cotton turns a plain wall into gentle vertical storage, with dark wooden shelves held in a soft fall of macrame. This macrame hanging shelf keeps small objects visible and close, while the fringe, knots and warm brown timber bring texture to a quiet corner.
What the wall gains
The cotton cord hangs in a natural cream tone, giving the darker shelves a lighter, softer frame.
Open shelving leaves room for small plants, candles, crystals, keepsakes or a favourite figure.
The central knotwork forms a clear geometric pattern, then loosens into long fringe below.
The wooden shelves add a rustic line through the textile, balancing drape with structure.
It suits visible storage, where a few chosen pieces are displayed rather than hidden away.
Cotton cord and albecia wood
The shelf is made from cotton and albecia wood (F. falcata), with the cord woven into macrame panels around the wood. The photo shows a natural-toned textile with brown shelves, giving it a warm, earthy look rather than a stark modern finish.
How to hang and care for it
Hang it from a secure wall hook or fixing suited to your wall type. Use it for lighter decorative pieces and avoid overloading the shelves.
Shake or lightly vacuum the macrame to lift dust from the cord. Wipe the wooden shelves with a dry cloth, and keep the piece away from prolonged damp.
Macrame in a modern home
Here, the knotted cotton works with the clean shelf lines to create a small display space for objects that feel personal, from a plant cutting to a meditation corner or a bedside keepsake.
